Fabric requirements for a finished quilt block size of 20” x 16 ½”:
Featuring our latest fabric collection, Land of Enchantment by Becca Plymale!
- One 10⅞” square - Terra Imprints
- One 10⅞” square - Luminaria Turquoise
- One 10⅞” square - Beyond the Clouds
- One 10⅞” square - Luminaria Adobe
1. Place 2 squares of contrasting color right sides together with the lighter fabric on top - make sure the light fabric's design direction is facing upwards. Repeat for the other two squares.
2. On one lighter fabric, draw a diagonal line from bottom left to top right. On the other, draw from bottom right to top left.
3. Stitch 1/4" away on both sides of each line. Cut along the drawn lines to create two pairs of Half Square Triangles (HSTs).
4. Rotate one HST so the lighter fabric's design direction is vertical. Make three equal-sized vertical cuts to create four strips.
5. Rearrange the strips, jumping one over to the far left. Sew them together to form a block unit.
6. Repeat with the remaining three HSTs, rotating so the lighter fabric's design is vertical.
7. Arrange all four units into the Aztec quilt block design. Sew the top two units, then the bottom two. Join the top and bottom units at the middle.
Your Aztec block is complete!
